As the 8th is about to take off to help reinforce the Void Shrikes, all vox casters in the shuttle and bay come alive with a booming and commanding voice. The platoon immediately recognizes it as the 8th's very own Lord General Adrik Fedorov who is aboard the lead fleet command Battleship. He has ordered the heavy cruiser you are aboard, the Vox Belli to assault the docking arm directly as the landing crafts were ineffective. Your shuttle begins powering down and the rear hatch opens for your platoon to unload from and and receive your new order to begin make your way to one of the hatches to prepare to assault the Starfort Lyacurgos.
As the mission became underway, the 8th loaded up into their transport crafts as they watch the Void Shrikes shuttles begin to launch. A sense of excitement is in the air as this is the platoons first mission after training. As they settle in the platoon can overhear vox chatter from the cockpit from the advanced force beginning their engagement of the starfort. The hatch closes and the engines begin to spin up as final preparation is made the vox chatter becomes very chaotic as they begin to take heavy losses, and reports of the starforts fortified defenses starting to cause heavy tolls on the transports and their escorts. As it becomes clearer that the starfort intel was greatly under exaggerated, the fist Void Shirke transports make it to the landing and begin the assault. Right away the Void Shirkes come under fire from heavy weapon emplacements that were well dug in. Being pinned down and not making any headway with heavy losses before they even landed, the Void Shrikes call for immediate reinforcement otherwise their little foothold on the starfort will be lost and with it, the mission.
The Void Shrikes would be the main strike force as their expertise in Zero G and ship to ship combat. The 8th will follow after the Void Shrikes to secure and reinforce them as needed. Intelligence indicated the starfort is not fully operational and suggest is manned by reserve forces and skeleton operational crew. Due to the starforts heavy weapons are currently operational The Generals have devised a strategy of taking using light combat transport ships to secure a docking arm so the bulk of the army and heavy equipment can be deployed to fully capture the fort.
8th Sit Rep: Into the Breach
The Cadian 8th embarked on a campaign in the Spinward Front to combat a rouge imperium sector administrator, that ceased power for himself, named Duke Severus and his elite and fiercely loyal troops, the Severan Dominate. The 8th is traveling aboard the Vox Belli, which is an Imperium Heavy Cruiser class warship.
Upon reaching the theater of war they were briefed the 8th would be supporting the Void Shrikes in securing the starfort Lyacurgos that orbits a key agro planet, Helena II in the Helena System. The planet was unable to be assulted until the capture of its orbiting fort as any landing parties would be instantly bombarded from the fort and any support craft would not survive long in orbit while the fort is still operational.
